"sports"and race cars go together for theme party?
Nov 03rd, 2015, 1:29am

My twins are having a joint party with another friend's kid who has a birthday around the same time.  We live in Africa in a place where theme parties are a given - not optional, but expected.  My friend chose the theme of "sports"

Well, my twins are 2 and don't know any sports, and neither do I.  So I made them little clipart of them on racing tricycles and made up tee-shirts that say "speed racers", and then made myself a tee-shirt that said I was their pit-crew.

My husband then wanted to be on the pit-crew, then my friend wanted her kid to ALSO be a 'speed racer' and have a shirt and her and her husband to also be pit-crew.

SO, now I have all 3 birthday kids as racers, all parents as pit-crew, but all the supplies we already bought have basketballs and footballs and soccer balls and baseballs because the theme was "sports."  As Americans, I couldn't care less about this - they're toddlers after all.  But my friend's friends who are coming care a LOT about appearances and I'm worried our party is now "all over the place" in terms of a theme.

I'm wondering if any of you have ideas for how to bring it all together?  Or should I ditch the party supplies and convince my friend to change to a 'racing' theme and buy new plates and whatnot?  I know this sounds like a small issue, but you'd have to see the parties people have here for even their 1 year olds - they are really very serious about parties here....
