Aug 11th, 2009, 5:21pm

Hi everyone. I am throwing a bridal shower for my sister. We are going to have a brunch type shower. Is it wrong to ask guests to bring a prepared dish? I dont want to be rude. HELP!!

You could make the shoer a theme...Recipe Shower where everyone brings the recipe and the actual dish with them. It could be fun.

It is alright to ask everyone to bring in the dish. It is called a pot luck party. Just remind the guests if there is anybody who is allergic to something that they must be careful. Smiley

Opps! I'm a bit late about this forum, but let me share my opinion regarding this topic for the sake of the other readers later on. Wink

I think there is nothing wrong when you request your guest to bring their own menus for them to be shared with you all. Just make sure your guests are all your close family or friends so that they wouldn't mind doing your request. You can also specify the dish you want each of them to bring to avoid duplicates. See to it also that the foods are easy to make or are available in your area for orders. If possible, ask for finger foods only.

I think this is perfectly acceptable and common.

Here's an idea that was passed around before:
- ABC bridal shower: Everyone bring a dish that starts with the first letter of their name
