Indiana Jones or Pirate Theme?
Jun 12th, 2008, 3:52am

I'm helping my sister throw a surprise party for my nephew who is turning nine next month. We can't decide between a pirate party or Indiana Jones theme, although, we do have one really great game/activity that will work well for either theme.

If anyone has any great suggestions for either theme we would welcome your ideas. Also, any cake or cupcake ideas would be appreciated too. We are thinking of using legos as a cake topper somehow because they are his favorite!

Both themes are great.  You could have treasure seeking activities for either.  Have the kids come dressed up as pirates or adventurers.  For a craft you could make treasure maps on brown paper, crumpled or stained with tea for authenticity, make pirate hats or flags. You could have a tub of rice with "treasure" hidden in it.  Children would "dig" for a treasure item.  Have a secret message game where one team makes up clues (like charades)  for the other team to guess what it means.  I have done pirate parties in my area and they are very popular.  If you are outside, consider a clue hunt.  The children who successfully figure out most of the clues would be the first to open and pick from a treasure chest of goodies.  Another craft idea could be making masks out of water jugs cut in half:  color with markers or paint (markers are faster) add yarn and-or stick on foamies.  They could be tiki-like or tribal for the pirate theme or Egyptian, African etc for the Indiana Jones theme.

To decide: Ask your nephew which movie he likes better. Good luck and have fun!!  Ann T Cori

The Indiana Jones theme is best for a birthday party. You can filled with mystical artifacts, creepy locations and non-stop action, the Indiana Jones series of movies is a great inspiration for a kid's party that won't soon be forgotten.

Pirate theme sounds interesting. and it is unisex theme so both boys and girls can enjoy the party.
