I Love Lucy Theme
Nov 22nd, 2006, 10:56pm

Hi,

I never introduced myself.  My name is Silva and my daughter is talking about an I Love Lucy themed BM.  How would that be accomplished without being silly?  Should I even try?  She absolutely loves it and knows each episode by heart.  Plus, she is a redhead...LOL!

Anyhow, just wondering what you all thought of that??  It's sort of like honoring someone else though, ya know?

Thanks!

I don't think you can do that theme without being silly (in fact, if it wasn't silly, what would the point be?) - but go with it if that's what she wants - it's certainly original!

I just sent to you a link, since links get all "chopped up" here. It's from a patch company called laughinglizards. They have lots of "I Love Lucy" patches that can be used to decorate the centerpieces, or glued onto the sign-in board or sewn into the kippot, etc.....

Good luck Smiley

I think you could have alot of fun with this really.  There are some real classic "I love Lucy" episodes like the one with the chocolate candy on the conveyor belt or stopping the grapes with those italian women.  You might approach it like people do with movie/hollywood themes with posters that advertise certain scenes/episodes.  A welcome poster with that heart that introduced the shows.  Have your daughter walk in to the theme music of the show.  You would really have to hunt down still pictures of scenes to see how else you can decorate.

I actually have relatives who attended a party with this theme!  The BM girl was named "Lucy".  The invite to the evening party had the big pink heart like in the TV show and said "We love Lucy"----you could say "We love DD".

Sounds cute...

I love the theme too.  You could also have a very cool lounge for cocktails and have videos of the show, shown on the walls.  I love the idea of centerpieces that represent the wonderful, memorable shows that are always favorites!  Good luck and go for it. Grin

I love the idea.  Then again, my Havanese (Cuban decent) dogs are named Desi & Lucy.  Naturally, Lucy has red hair.  I am somewhat partial as I had the pleasure of knowing her in her later years of life.

I would have the tables be different episodes.  I'd consider extra attention to the chocolate factory one.  What about the the wine making one where they stomped on the grapes with their bare feet?

lakemom, just reread your post and had to laugh that we had fond memories of same shows.

Styxx, if your daughter is passionate about it you'll have more fun getting to the finish line.  I'm seeing the invites with the big heart and I love .... written in script.

Maybe some Lucy trivia question on the tables or seating cards.

Lucy...I'm home!  There is a store in the MGM hotel in Vegas as well as the MGM theme park in Walt Disney World with Lucy themed merchandise.  Not that I'm suggesting you go there, but they probably have websites.  I had a Lucy fanny pack for awhile.

I went to one with this theme and it was so creative and wonderful. There were red hearts everywhere and each table had a different famous black and white frame scene...there was also an opportunity to do a contest with the vita...vegamin commercial and then we all voted on the winner. They changed the name to I love .... (the child's name) and the room was red/white/black and lots of red heart candies, etc. You can have alot of fun with this one...

Thank you all!  These are some great ideas.  But are you all saying to drop the word/name LUCY from everything and just use my daughter's name which is Jamie?  What kind of centerpieces would you see for this?  I cannot afford to hire a decorator.

This all got started because she bought an I Love Lucy (cheap) wristwatch at our 99 Cent store.  Anyone have any ideas on how to use those?

Also, wouldn't this theme be really boring to other 13 year old kids?  We'll have about 50.  They might not even get it at all!

Also, with the invitation idea (several of you suggested the big pink heart with the script "We Love Jamie!"  But I don't  think a lot of our religious Jewish friends would appreciate that kind of an invitation, making a television icon more important than the religious significance.  But it is a really cute, visual idea.  Any way around this?

Thanks again!
ps.  My daughter is surprised to hear this has been done before!

LOL - the 411 police have changed the word "wrist watch" to the above word because the last letter of "wrist" and the first 3 of "watch" make a bad word!

Well, in my opinion, the invitation need not have anything to do with the theme of the party. In fact, I prefer a traditional or religious invitation and then just a separate card or reference to "the celebration continues..."

As far as theming the party with a centerpiece...the centerpieces at the party we went to were full of stuff purchased on sale after valentines day...big red hearts, heart mylar balloons...the base was a circular round styrofoam with some sort of prismy covering...then sticks with a red heart (table number on it) and a stick with a black and white still from one of the tv shows and the picture matched the black and white placecards...simple, but striking with the colors...suspended up were heart balloons...use the black, white red colors with linens and you are set... If your date is after Valentine's day, purchase red heart candies, have a ball! Goodluck with this...it is not as hard as you think. I think you could get an I Love LUcy book from the library and scan the photos for placecards and centerpieces...have fun with it.

I also agree----you can have a religious or more formal invite and just attach a "reception card" with your theme.
We did a formal invite and then my DD got to have fun with the reception card with her theme on it.

The decor is just for fun and if your DD enjoys it and it looks great, everyone else will like it!

There is an I Love Lucy museum in upstate NY, in the town where Lucille Ball grew up.  (Name is gone from my brain right now.)  Anyway, they had tons of Lucy memorabilia, such as posters, photos, t-shirts, etc.  As far as kids not getting the theme, I doubt that.  Most kids we know love the show.  We watch them on the dvd in the car and we all laugh, even though we have watched them a thousand times!  Enjoy the theme.

I actually went to a I love Lucy themed BM about 4 years ago. One thing I do remember is the place cards was a small bottle filled with red hots and had a Vita- Veta- Vegamin label on it with the guests name and table. I also recall TV screens around the room playing episodes of "Lucy" throughout the night. It was adorable, great theme, really different.

Welcome to the Board and what a wonderful idea.  I was telling my DH about it...he is a big Lucille Ball fan.  (Even recorded a special about her life last night on PBS).  I believe the mavens have given you and your DD some wonderful ideas!  Part of our basement is decorated with Lucy items that my DH has collected over the years.  And since your DD loves Lucy she will have many items from her Bat Mitzvah to save for herself.

Don't know where you live but the Lucy shop at MGM in Orlando is awesome.  Lots of Lucy stuff!!  If you are in the Ohio area, we can surely share with you!

Good luck and please keep us posted.

This is definitely a different and fun theme.  I love the heart idea for the invite and of course the tableclothes would have to be red.
