Japanese theme
May 07th, 2005, 7:28pm

My daughter has studied Japanese for two years, loves anime and the culture. She hopes to travel there someday.
So, for her high school graduation I am planning a Japanese Luncheon for family and her best friends. Here are my ideas so far (if you have some, please post!):
I found a site that translates American names into Japanese for free. I am using these on invitations and place cards.
Welcome banner in Japanese for our front door.
Decorations will include lanterns, bamboo, bonsai, river rocks scattered amongst tea light candles. Primary colors are khaki, white and black (very traditional) with spring pink and green accents.
Daughter has japanese dolls and wall fan so will use those.
Seating at low tables on bamboo mats and/or pillows.
Food- catered sushi (not brave enough to do my own!), teryaki chicken and rice, mismo soup,Japanese snack mix and candies, etc. Of course, green tea! For dishes, I am using disposable. I found some nice printed ones on line.
I also ordered chopsticks and fans from Oriental Trading for party favors. They had the best prices by far. I will get traditional Japanese music on loan from library. I am so excited!
It should be a very different and memorable graduation party!

How it went...

The party went great but I was so exhausted that I did not get to enjoy myself. It was a busy weekend- lots of graduation activities! Plus, I'm a teacher- I'm always tired this time of year!!
I wish I had hired a young person to help me in the kitchen, so I would be freed up to socialize with guests.
Next time I do a meal as complicated as this, I will do so.  Wink

Hi,

I am volunteer with the Make a Wish Foundation. We are making an 11 year old boys wish come true. He has has chronic muscular atrophy and has dreamed of going to Tokyo Japan.

I am trying to find a site that will translate his name in Japanese.  Do you recall the website you used to do this?

I've been struggling to find a free site.

Thanks in advance.
