Graduation Songs
Apr 13th, 2005, 11:36pm

Does anyone have any suggestions for really good graduation songs?  I am making a slide show to show at our party and am looking for good songs about graduation, even growing up, moving on, etc. to use.

1.  The Time of My Life - Green Day (If the like rock they should love this)
2.  Hero - Mariah Carey (only if they get into it)
3.  Momma Used to Say - Rick James (minus the third verse)
4.  I'm Coming out - Diana Ross (They LOVED this one!  Do the real words not the remake words)
5.  I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelly (Best with a large chorus)
6.  Ain't No Valley High Enough - (I forget who made this song popular, but one of my graduating classes identified with it.

I can't think of any others at the moment, but my suggestion is go back to the good oldies...y'know Motown, classics etc... You'd be surprised at what stuff is out there that still has a clean message.

I think these are probably the best graduation songs :
1) Europe - The Final Countdown
2) Vitamin C - Graduation song (friends forever)
3) Dirty Dancing - I've had the time of my life
4) Robbie Williams & Queen - We are the champions
5) Grease - We Go Together

YES...Corey Smith He Has An AWSOME Song "I'm Not Gonna Cry" He Actuly Has ALOT Of Songs That Would Work For Graduation Slide Show...Heres THe Lyrics To "Im Not Gonna Cry"

I'm Not Gonna Cry - Corey Smith

Sunday shoes, cap and gown
The whole town gathered around
Waited 18 years now it's all comin down to this.
I scanned the crowd and it fills my soul
My best friends all here in rows
No turning back, now its time to walk that line
This tassel is gonna turn
But when the moment passes by
We'll just walk away
Then slowly grow apart

But I'm not gonna cry, no
Not one sad or happy tear
I've waited my whole life
Now I'm gonna fly right outta here

It's a bittersweet goodbye, but I'm not gonna cry

Friday night, football games,
First loves and first heartbreaks,
It didn't matter who won or lost,
Only how we played,
Memories as good as gold,
Tearin' up those mountain roads,
Racin' out 53, to old georgetown,
Sure we made a little trouble,
But learned from every mistake,
So there's no regret,
We've done the best we could

So I'm not gonna cry, no
Not one sad or happy tear
I've waited my whole life
Now I'm gonna fly right outta here

These have been the best years of my life
So I'm not gonna cry

Its been a lonely, winding journey
And we've lost a few along the way
Still we've hung in there through the tribulations
Now its time to celebrate
Its our graduation day

So I'm not gonna cry
Not one sad or happy tear
I've waited my whole life
So I'm gonna fly right outta here

This has been the best day of my life
So I'm not gonna cry

Its a bittersweet goodbye, I'm not gonna cry

A band called Head Automatica released a song called Graduation Day. The video is really funny, and the song fits graduation. Its a rock song, so they must be a fan or rock.

Vit. C The Graduation Song would be my next pick. Then prob. Queen We are the Champs, or Bohemian Rhap.

Time of your life by Green Day is another good choice.

Closing Time by Semisonic is another fav Graduation song. Its not done by green day. They may have covered it, but Semisonic made it famous.

RASCAL FLATTS SONG FROM THE ALBUM ME AND MY GANG - MY WISH

I hope that days come easy and moments pass slow,
and each road leads you where you want to go,
and if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
and if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
if it's cold outside,
show the world the warmth of your smile,
more then anything, more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it,
to your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
and while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
all the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
and you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
and you always give more then you take.
Oh More then anything, Yeah, and more then anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it,
to your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more then you can hold,
and while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish

I am having a similar problem. This year since the students are so aggressive, I am allowing them to assist with chosing their music.

Here are the final choices! I have not heard of many of these songs which I would love to here themb ut I don't have time, this is why I need your help.

I need one slow and one excellent fast one! Style of this class of 8th graders, the kids are really a party type of crowd and love to dance!

World's Greatest-R Kelly
Hero-Mariah Carey
I Been Missin' You-P Diddy & Faith Evans
All My Life-Casey and JoJo

I am really looking the fast song. We did Celebrate and I'm Coming Out Last Year, so now I need knew ones. Undecided

Thanks! Smiley

ANYTHING SPANISH ???

I just thought of one that I'd probably use.

I Believe-Diana DeGarmo

Here's the lyrics

Have you ever you ever reached a rainbow's end
And did you find your pot of gold
Ever catch a shooting star
And tell me how high did you soar
Ever felt like you were dreaming
Just to find that you're awake
Cause the magic that surrounds you
Will lift you up and guide you on your way

I can see it in the stars across the sky
Dreamt a hundred thousand dreams before
Now I finally realize
You see I've waited all my life for this moment to arrive
And finally I believe

I believe in the impossible
If I reach deep within my heart
Overcome any obstacle
Won't let this dream fall apart
See I strive to be the very best
Shine my light for all to see
Cause anything is possible
When you believe yeah

I can see it in the stars across the sky
Dreamt a hundred thousand dreams before
Now I finally realize
I've waited all my life for this moment to arrive
And finally I believe
Yes I believe

Ohh Yeah

Love keeps liftin me higher
Liftin me higher
Love keeps liftin me higher
I said love keeps liften
Love keeps liften me
I said Love keeps liften
Love keeps liften me higher
Said love keeps liften me higher
I said love keeps liften me high

If I think of any more I'll post some. I'm in the middle of working on my graduation (even though it's not till next May. Just  a little anxious.  Grin)

A personal favorite (I'm using it at MY graduation) is Bitter Sweet symphony by Oasis. It was originally used in the movie cruel intentions, but it fits a graduation very well. I would also recommend Wonder wall by Oasis. Both of these songs are rock, but bittersweet is orchestral and slow.
