Bridal Open House ~ Wedding
Mar 03rd, 2005, 9:46pm

My brother is getting married in a few months.  They are planning a very small wedding.  Many of our family and friends will not be invited.  The brides mom is throwing her a shower for their family and friends.  My mom and I are wondering if we should throw something for our side as well.  Since most of our family/friends are not invited to the wedding, we don't want to throw a shower.  Will it be tacky to through them an Open House type of party?  We wanted to throw them a small party after the wedding so those family members who have not yet met her can have the chance to but the bride doesn't want to have anything after the wedding.  We are kinds stuck as to what we should do.  Any suggestions will be helpful!  Thank you!

I guess I don't see why the Bride's family is throwing them a shower and not inviting your side of the family after all marriage is a joining of families. If the Bride is going to attend a party with her family she needs to attend one with your family. That is common courtesy.

Not sure why your side isnt included in the shower....but typically if a wedding is a small exclusive affair, an after party is planned to ease the hurt feelings of those excluded from the actual event.  You didnt say why the wedding itself is going to be so small.  If distance is the issue, then a party allows everyone to celebrate and express their good wishes to the couple and their families.  The current situation makes me feel the bride's family wants to spend the minimum amount on the wedding but not miss out on any gifts.Showers cost far less than wedding receptions.
