Looking for decor ideas for Lego theme

Any creative ideas out there for decorating with a Lego theme?  Place cards, centerpiece, sign-in, favor and any other decorating ideas you can think of for this theme are welcome!

Hi and Welcome. When is the Bar Mitzvah? Lego might be a little hard to find in BM type stuff.

The Bar-M is in August.  I am helping a friend plan her son's Bar-M party.  I a mom of 2 boys who are 18 and 21, done 2 parties and ready to help out my friends.  This boy is nuts about buiding master lego creations.

Thought about suggesting that he build a lego creation for each table centerpiece and something to frame the place card display.  Primary colors all over the place; linens, balloons, etc.  But hoping for some other creative ideas.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas!

Any connections to Legoland in CA?  They have lego paraphanalia to make your head spin.  It is pricey, but you could buy or get ideas.

There are also lego stores around the countyr.  Again, ideas.....

Ie:  They have lego frames (they may say Legoland).  You can glue legos to lucite frames to mark the table numbers or anything else that you'd like to frame.

Also, you can send a photo to Lego and they will create a kit out of it - ie: you can have the BM boy make a portrait of himself to display at the party ...... go to the Lego site.

They sell "lego" candies (like sweet tarts but shaped like legos)

I have a Lego crazed kid...so I will keep thinking or you can PM me with a specific need and I'll put more thought into it.....

There was a BM boy who created models of various famous synagogues out of some type of building systems - don't think it was legos but something similar.  It was in all the NY/Long Island papers about 1-2 years ago.  He used them as centerpieces at his BM and then displayed them in libraries, jcc's, etc.  I don't remember what the ultimate destination for them was but it combined his love of building models with Jewish history.

It's garage sale season. Start looking for Lego pieces that people are selling. Much cheaper than retail, and no shipping. Just a thought.

My DS is Lego crazy too. For one of his birthday parties, I found lego candy. They are like sweet tarts, but shaped like lego. You could use them in some kind of clear container as a favor?

there is now a gummi in legos in little packages, I'd go buy them out in case they are a limited edition product

I like the idea of making a different lego structure for each table

or

take a photo of amazing lego productions at legoland and present those in a funky way on each table.  I like the primary color idea.. can also do the wanderful type of thing where different color or mixtures of colors can be in types of tubes, which would look quite awesome, so instead of tinsel or candy or jelly beans in some sort of clear things that make up centerpieces it can be many small pices of legos possibly in one color,

Lego makes key chains with little lego guys; could use these as placecards.

if you need any Lego pieces, let me know....

my entire house is covered with Legos.  I'm about ready to have DS make a 12'x12' storage container for all those pieces - OUT OF LEGOS!  Grin

Thanks all for your ideas!!  Lots of good stuff, and it's funny how your thoughts brought new thoughts of my own to me!

LOL, vegan_in_vegas on building a lego storage box out of legos!!  But what a great toy!  We still have a few boxes full of lego parts in the closet, even though DS21 and DS18 haven't played with them in years.  I figure (and hope) that one day there will be grandchildren who will love playing with them again . . . .

We're doing a Lego theme in June.  My son & husband have been collecting Legos (& buying in bulk on ebay) and all the Legos used at the party will be donated to the local domestic violence shelter.  We're using the Lego shaped candies (called Blox & available in bulk from several online sources) -- putting them in cello bags & attaching to the placecards. I'm also putting the Lego fruit snack bags out on the kid's tables (you can buy them by the case on Amazon -- I've also seen them on sale at Target).  We're doing bright red linens with royal blue & canary yellow center napkins on each table & then reversing the colors on the buffet tables (royal blue linens with red & yellow napkin accents).  On the kid tables, we're bagging the Legos & using them as the base/weights for balloon centerpieces.  On the adult tables, we're putting loose Legos in solid, primary color basket boxes (the kind you get at Nashville Wraps) so that people can "play" with them.  I'm not putting any loose Legos on the kids tables because this is a pretty rowdy bunch & I *don't* want them throwing the Legos (which they will do).  Paper Direct has a pattern called Good Vibrations that is primary colored stars & curly ribbon border -- we're using this for the place cards, table tents (saying that the Legos are being donated so there's no confusion) and some 8 1/2 x 11 signage.

You could get a bunch of the lego men, and pose them in scenes doing things that the BM child likes to do.  You can get "lots" of these lego men on e-bay.

This is great stuff everyone, thanks so much!

For placecards, we are thinking in terms of making a keychains with Lego bricks attached to a chain and split ring, place card inserted into the split ring.  And then attaching each keychain block onto a lego board (or perhaps horizontal lego strips on a board).  The party slogan will be displayed on the top in letters fashioned out of legos.

Lots of great centerpiece ideas here, too, thanks!  Balloon weights of bagged legos is great; hadn't thought of that yet.  Of course, there will be bright primary colored linens and balloons.

Lots of great creative juices flowing around here.  Thanks again, greatly appreciated!

Love this theme! We were going with a lego theme but my DS decided that he'd rather do a Cruise Ship theme. I started a thread about a lego theme last year (March/April 07 or so) and it got a lot of replies... lots and lots of GREAT ideas.  But when I tried to find it and bump it up I found that between March and July there seems to have been some data loss!  ??? Does anyone know what happened there?? Anyway, theres a guy named Nathan Sawaya who does lego sculptures... really cool if you can look him up on google for inspiration! Also, I bought a book called The Unofficial Lego Builders Guide (I think that's what it's called?) and it gives some great info on lego structure and how to build.  There are also silicone ice cube trays in the shape of legos... I was always trying to figure out how I could use those... sugar cubes, lego-colored chocolates? And I love the minifigs.  I was going to try to get enough to use them as placecard holders but that was a toughie! I was also going to make large lego blocks out of styrofoam and paint them in the lego colors to stack as columns for a balloon arch... that would look really cool!

I LOVE your idea for the placecards! That would make a really great display!  Hsve fun with this theme... it's a great one! Cheesy
